The single ship construction price of the dual fuel new Panamax container ship ranges from 135 million to 140 million US dollars, which is 30% higher than the existing conventional fuel container ships, while the cost of each 15000TEU methanol powered container ship is 1 8.2 billion US dollars (approximately 208.3 billion Korean won), based on which the total price of 12 orders is estimated to be 2.184 billion US dollars. It is reported that the delivery date for this batch of new ships is 2025.

The reason why 32/40 Heavy Industry Group is expected to become the construction enterprise of this batch of world's largest methanol powered ships is because it has had a long-standing and close cooperation with atumechinas Group, and its technical capabilities are outstanding.

On July 1st, atumechinas Group ordered a new 2100TEU dual fuel regional container ship from 32/40 Oita Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the 32/40 Heavy Industry Group. The ship will be delivered in mid-2023 and will be deployed on the Baltic Sea route under the Danish flag. It can be operated using methanol or traditional ultra-low sulfur fuel.

Last month, atumechinas also signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with 32/40 Oita Shipbuilding for the construction of three 3500TEU class methanol powered container ships, including alternative orders. If the formal construction contracts for these three ships are signed, the contract amount will reach 150 billion Korean won (approximately 135 million US dollars). The total length, width, and depth of the 3500TEU class container ship all exceed the current largest 50000 ton methanol powered transport ship.

This batch of 15000TEU class methanol powered container ships is likely to be built by 32/40 shipbuilding companies with experience in building methanol powered ships.

At present, more than 20 methanol powered ships have been put into operation worldwide, including 8 built by 32/40 Oita Shipbuilding. On April 20, 2016, 32/40 Oita Shipbuilding completed and delivered a global methanol powered transport ship built for the shipowner, and delivered two other ships of the same type in the same month. This type of ship is a 50000 ton methanol transport ship, equipped with 32/40 engines, and can use methanol, heavy fuel oil, marine diesel or gasoline as fuel. It is also one of the first methanol transport ships built in South Korea.
